Suburbs and settlements

New suburbs (or ‘urban extensions’) and complete new villages and towns are helping to meet the demand for more and better homes.

Such projects require an understanding of the complex interaction between homes, jobs, transport, local services, utilities infrastructure and landscape impact. They also require intensive engagement with existing communities to achieve benefits for all.

PTE’s urban design and masterplanning skills are shaping major projects for new settlements and large urban extensions of between 300 and 10,000 homes. Clients include local authorities, developers, private and institutional landowners.

PTE is also delivering homes and neighbourhoods in rural areas and market towns, developing innovative typologies which respect traditional contexts while meeting contemporary needs and aspirations – ‘the 21st Century period home’.

“Thoughtful urban design that encourages and enables wellbeing is essential to building great neighbourhoods. Our ambition for Barton Park is to exemplify this approach, promoting healthy and active lifestyles. We are very pleased Barton Park has been selected as an NHS Healthy New Town demonstrator site and we look forward to working with the NHS closely on the project.”
