Greenwich Council has agreed, in consultation with residents, that the Connaught, Morris Walk and Maryon Estates, which include 1,064 homes, should be brought forward for demolition. The three estates, built in the late 1960s and early 1970s, have come to the end of their natural lives and there is a need for comprehensive redevelopment.

Pollard Thomas Edwards’ proposal provides a high quality, original solution which seamlessly integrates each of the former estates with their immediate neighbourhoods to create a strong sense of place and a specific and identifiable character, where people will want and choose to live.

We achieved planning permission in 2014 for 1,548 new homes. This includes large family houses, mews houses and courtyard apartments – both mid-rise mansion blocks and higher rise blocks exploiting long-distance views to the Thames.

The new neighbourhoods will include around 35% affordable and shared ownership homes and 65% of homes for private sale. The aim is to transform a largely mono-tenure area into a mixed tenure area and to create a better balance of family and non-family housing. The scheme will also create clearly defined public and private green spaces: private back gardens for family houses and a series of parkland arteries connecting the surrounding neighbourhoods.

“The redevelopment of the three Woolwich Estates represents a key part of our ongoing plans to transform Woolwich and the wider borough after decades of economic decline. The development will be greatly enhanced by ongoing investment in transport, including two new Crossrail stations, new businesses of all sizes, new homes elsewhere in the Royal Borough and much improved educational and community facilities.”

Cllr Steve Offord, Cabinet member for housing, Royal Borough of Greenwich

"We are delighted to be working with Lovell on such a significant and much needed regeneration project. Our approach is to mend and regenerate neighbourhoods through careful planning and the addition of contemporary new homes and infrastructure – ensuring we speak directly to the communities involved."
