A new High Street lined with shops, offices and a health centre, integrated with 224 new homes, replaces a failed 1960’s shopping centre and tames a dual carriage-way. The shared vision of PTE and C.F. Møller for Swan Housing Association creates a new mixed-use neighbourhood at the heart of Laindon. Detailed planning permission was achieved in February 2017 with massive local support.

"We have worked closely with the community to develop a high street proposal that is a true ‘centre of gravity’ for the local and wider area. The proposal re-imagines the centre of Laindon, bringing not just bricks and mortar, but a wider view to deliver an attractive walkable setting for new homes, shopping and working; whilst also addressing local resident concerns to reduce traffic speeds and promote a sense of community and neighbourliness."

Carl Vann, Partner, PTE

"It is great news that Swan will be regenerating the shopping centre and I have every confidence in the ability of the team to deliver the much needed improvements in Laindon. Swan has a strong track record of delivering quality developments that meet local needs and they will get all the help they need to make progress.

The Council is committed to making a difference and has set funds aside to support cost effective community interventions that will improve the environment and vitality of the centre. We have been working closely with community representatives to identify projects that will make a difference. These small positive steps will revive the heart of this community now and for the future."

Bala Mahendran, Chief Executive, Basildon Borough Council

“Helping to ensure the regeneration of the Laindon Shopping Centre has been a longstanding priority for Basildon Council, so I am delighted to see this application approved. Swan's proposals for the site - a combination of modern homes, shops and health facilities - will be a true asset to the community for generations to come. We have worked closely with Swan to bring the project to this stage and will strive to continue this strong relationship to ensure these plans become a reality."
