The mixed tenure residential scheme will provide over 470 new homes in the heart of Walthamstow. The scheme is designed around a sequence of shared green spaces, with a new linear park running through the centre of the site. The park is envisaged as the main pedestrian route and focal point for the new neighbourhood. A 12 storey landmark building will be the gateway to the development, facing onto a public piazza with a café at ground floor level.
Mansion blocks in the north of the site will provide dual aspect homes with views into communal gardens and the linear park. Set behind an avenue of mature London plane trees, the new buildings adjoining the existing street are designed to reflect the traditional street pattern of the surrounding neighbourhood.
The scheme has sustainability at its core, planning to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes, Level 4 for housing, and BREEAM Very good rating, together with energy generation on site. Conceived as a car free development, the aim is to encourage residents to use sustainable modes of transport by creating pedestrian and cycle friendly routes through the scheme, linking to nearby Walthamstow High Street market and James Street rail station.
A planning application was submitted in February 2016 and granted in May 2016.
