Virido, Clay Farm
2012 - current
Pollard Thomas Edwards, as part of Hill’s team, has been selected by Cambridge City Council to realise their vision for Clay Farm.
Virido will be an exemplar development that combines the very best in design, sustainability and low carbon living. Working within the broader masterplan and corresponding Design Codes, the scheme provides 208 new homes and commercial accommodation. The residential accommodation is arranged in a grid of quads surrounding a new park at the heart of the site.
Each quad consists of around 23 homes, ranging from one- to three-bedroom apartments and family houses. Each home has a private patio garden, separated from the shared garden at the heart of each quad by a moat which also stores and attenuates rainwater.
All homes are designed to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5. They are dual aspect and have a high level of fabric efficiency, approaching Passivhaus standard: they will be super-insulated, air-tight and mechanically ventilated with heat recovery.
