The regeneration of the Page Road Estate in Bedfont Lane replaces run-down and unloved suburban 1950s flat blocks with new houses and gardens and double aspect flats.
New streets and squares replace the undesignated open spaces that lay between the blocks which were arranged off an access road, and provide a mixture of new public and private spaces which reflect the residents’ needs and ambitions for their neighbourhood.
Two and three-storey terraces and squares, overlooked by four-storey flats, blend in with the traditional texture of the area, the details mirroring the red brick and tile hanging of the alms houses opposite and the surrounding neighbourhood.
The scheme has involved much resident consultation and, although the existing site layout provided few empty areas, the construction programme was organised so that residents could move into their new homes before their old homes were demolished.
