Lea Bridge Road
This competition winning scheme will form a gateway to the borough of Waltham Forest, sited at a key location on one of the main east-west routes. Comprising 300 residential apartments, including 62 affordable, the design responds to the neighbouring context.
The scheme mediates between the traditional terraced street pattern to the east and the green landscape of the Lea Valley to the west, while also addressing the industrial locale and busy highways. The 1800sqm of commercial space will include a gym, retail or office facilities and a cycle café. This and the newly designed public realm will activate the Lea Bridge Road street frontage to create an attractive pedestrian route.
The heart of the development is a shared courtyard which will act as an extension to the local green spaces. The new mini-holland cycle lane runs alongside the site, providing links for commuting and access to the local area. In addition to this, the re-opening of the adjacent rail station will give easy access to sustainable forms of transport for the new residents.
Pollard Thomas Edwards achieved planning permission in June 2016.
