Carl Vann, Partner
BA (Hons) DipArch ARB RIBA
Carl is an equity partner at PTE and heads up one of the two design workshops focused on the concept and planning stage. He has a special interest in reinventing traditional typologies, such as the mews and the town house, to meet contemporary needs.
“I try to create a strong and persuasive concept that will shine through the challenging processes of planning and delivery.”
Wearing his design champion hat, Carl promotes quality throughout the practice. He set up a forum of design reviews every Friday morning, when a different project in progress is presented to the entire office. Dubbed the Sounding Wall, the forum offers what he calls “the fresh pair of eyes test”. He also teaches the post graduate ‘Design Realisation’ course at the Bartlett School of Architecture.
Like all of PTE’s Partners, Carl has long experience in the housing, mixed-use and regeneration sectors, and has both designed and delivered a series of successful and award-winning projects, ranging from large-scale masterplans to infill sites.
Carl also leads the Communications Group, which organises events, press releases, booklets, website updates, award submissions and bids for new business.
